Ghost Town

| | Comments (0)
There might as well have been tumbleweed rolling across campus today with so few people around. Although campus didn't actually close until this afternoon, nearly all services were shut down yesterday. I've worked in in a corporate office, a government lab, and the US DOT headquarters in DC, all of which experience the typical "there's no one here" scenario before Christmas. However, none compare to the emptiness on a university campus in late December.

The good news is I was able to complete most of my shopping this afternoon.

We pick up our new dog in less than 24 hours. Look for a post with pictures and details about her tomorrow.

12 Days a Bloggin'

| | Comments (0)
It's been far too long since I last posted. In the spirit of the season, you will find at least one entry every day for the remaining 12 days of 2007 (including today).

A few quick thoughts about my life at the moment:
  • The semester is over.
  • My next class is January 22 (oh yeah).
  • We're staying in town for Christmas, which will be very nice.
  • My sister-in-law arrives this weekend and will stay through New Years.
  • I'm excited about adopting a dog this Saturday.
  • I just started shopping for my wife's gifts today.
  • We love our new townhouse.
  • I'm embarrassed about my lack of progress on the reading list I posted in January.
  • I can't wait to see "Walk Hard"
Look for another post tomorrow.

Which Theologian Are You?

Despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of the Ontological Argument, I scored as Anselm in this interesting online quiz matching responses to the views of prominant theologians through the ages. Here are the details of my results:

You scored as Anselm, Anselm is the outstanding theologian of the medieval period. He sees man's primary problem as having failed to render unto God what we owe him, so God becomes man in Christ and gives God what he is due. You should read 'Cur Deus Homo?'

Check it out and let me know how you score. Since most readers of this blog are of the evangelical tradition, I'm curious if the quiz will produce any variance amongst us.

Pre-Movie ads

My wife was approached to complete a survey following our viewing of Transformers this afternoon (great summer action flick, btw). The survey was evidently measuring the impact of the post-slideshow, pre-preview commercials. For example, the anti-drug campaign type commercials commonly aired in theaters out here, or for those of you in LA, the old LA Times commercials shot like an action film. The interesting thing was that Cynthia told the guy she didn't recall the advertised products, but she did remember the church ads (slides) before the commercials. The survey-taker responded, "That's what everyone says." So, perhaps advertising in movie theaters is a strong way for churches to make their presence known.

Even if you're not a Mac person, this link showing the history of Apple products is pretty cool.

Snow Day!

After some light snow yesterday and heavy sleet and freezing rain overnight, GMU is closed for the day (along with pretty much all area school districts). I should be able to catch up on some blog posts in addition to work today. Stay tuned...

Barack and Roll

barak_2.jpgI saw a student wearing a t-shirt with the "Barack and Roll!" slogan and I thought it was clever. I didn't really try to attend the rally until the very end because of the crowds. Actually, the crowd didn't bother me, but taking a couple hours from my day did so I just snuck in at the very end. Here's a picture from the Washington Post.
